Our History - From Then til Now

Haldeman-Homme, Inc. was founded as the W.W. Haldeman Company in 1924 dealing primarily in light material handling equipment for industry and gradually expanding to the educational, health care and institutional fields.

In 1940, Duke Haldeman entered into a partnership agreement with William R Langford and the firm became known as Haldeman-Langford.

In January of 1946, upon his return from duty as a Marine in World War II, J.E. (Jack) Homme joined the company which had a total of 4 employees. Jack directed and expanded into the architectural/contract sales group in the rapidly growing school and hospital markets.

In 1949, the company entered into a manufacturing royalty agreement with Reynold Erickson of Forest Lake, Minnesota, a manufacturer of a folding wall table for use in school cafeterias. Haldeman-Langford Manufacturing Company was created to manufacture these tables. The Erickson table was distributed through a national network of dealers.

In 1950, Jack Homme became vice president and general manager of both companies. Upon retirement of W.R. Langford in 1955, the names of both corporations were changes to Haldeman-Homme, Incorporated and Haldeman-Homme Manufacturing Company.

In 1959, Duke Haldeman retired from the company and Haldeman-Homme Manufacturing Company was sold to Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. These tables are still produced and marketed by the Palmer Snyder Company today.

The company was originally headquartered at 2580 University Avenue, St Paul, Minnesota through 1962. In 1966, the company erected a 14,000 square foot facility. The building was specifically designed to serve the company’s sales and service staff along with needed warehouse and stocking space. Due to continued growth, the facility was expanded in 1969 providing in excess of 40,000 square feet of office and warehouse space.

In 1967, Anderson Ladd Corporation, Minnesota’s leading supplier of commercial and residential hardwood flooring and athletic flooring was acquired. Subsequently that corporation was dissolved and Anderson-Ladd now operates as a subsidiary division of Haldeman-Homme, Incorporated.

At present Haldeman-Homme has 150 employees. The turnover ratio is very low reflecting its founders dedication to insuring financial strength and continuity of the company through such programs as an employee stock ownership program.
