Clinical Pathology Laboratories
Haldeman-Homme partners with CPL on testing facility renovation
Clinical Pathology Labs (CPL) is the Austin area branch of Sonic USA. CPL’s central lab was originally constructed in 1999 housing both laboratory and administrative office space for the organization. Lab volume increased more than 10 fold forcing increased productivity and ultimately the expansion that doubled the size of the original facility and remodeled the entire original building while continuing to operate both lab and office functions. Conversion from fixed lab benches to automation of many laboratory functions caused limitations for growth. Adoption of the scientific casework, Max/Mobile cart and table system allows for continuous changes in the lab floor and provides space, as needed for floor mounted automation.
CPL required a flexible lab in which equipment and personnel could be reconfigured efficiently and cost effectively with minimal downtime. CPL has over 1800 employees and a 100,000 square foot main Laboratory in Texas, which offered very little flexibility.
CPL, partnered with Haldeman Homme Inc, to develop a lab layout, which optimized space and provided the ability to quickly move and adapt. The primary product used to solve their needs is the Max/Mobile heavy–-duty instrument cart and table system. With these 2 systems and their compli-mentary accessories at their disposal, CPL quickly customized work stations to each process with the confidence knowing they can quickly reconfigure these stations as needed.
“Roger Brigance from Haldeman Homme provided support to the Owner and design team throughout the process of design, installation and on-going modification of table and cart systems. By the time building expansion was complete CPL’s needs had already changed and Roger helped the team work through a completely new layout of all of the tables and carts purchased. As the CPL team learned components and flexibility of the system accessories were purchased and added. CPL is already to begin their next major remodel , con-verting administrative office space to added lab space and plan to implement the same cart and table systems used in the expansion pro-ject.”
