Aquaculture

This module discusses the growing of aquatic animals and plants in a controlled environment.  Students discuss environmental affects on aquaculture while exploring aquacultural needs of consumers.  Dissection software provides students with a virtual dissection of a perch, as well as a comprehensive overview of a fish's external features and various biological systems.  Students test water samples for dissolved oxygen and other defining elements in order to learn the importance of water quality to aquaculture.

Optional Aquaculture System - Fish Production

The Aquaculture System is a complete fish production system.  It includes a silent oil-less air pump, a state-of-the-art clarifier, and a biological filter.  The entire system contains only 300 gallons of water, making heating, water changes, and overall size and weight minimal.  Included is a detailed instructor's manual that gives step-by-step set up and maintenance procedures.

This system is simple to set up and maintain, and allows students to successfully bring fifty pounds of fish to market size.

The Aquaculture System is assembled entirely of professional quality, aquacultural-duty components.  With minor maintenance, all components have a life expectancy of many years.  All electrical components are UL-approved and power consumption is a mere 30 watts.  Maintenance takes less than ten minutes per day and only 10-gallons of water needs to be emptied and replaced daily.  The entire system fits in a 6' x 8' area and can fit through a standard 36-inch classroom door.
