Plant Science

   
Students study various types of plants - those necessary for our survival, as well as those that bring beauty to our lives.  Students are introduced to the basics of hydroponic gardening while conducting an experiment to grow mustard seeds.  Students utilize software that teaches gardening and landscaping principles, along with how to manage simulated farms.  Throughout this module, students assimilate information concerning plant and seed dissection, insect predators and the major food crop - corn

Optional Hydroponics System - Ebb and Flow
The Hydroponics System is ideal for AgriScience classrooms because it allows students to conduct hands-on classroom plant production activities.  The Hydroponics System is an Ebb and Flow system used for growing plants with large roots like tomatoes, peppers, beans, cucumbers, ect.

The Hydroponics System features a heavy-duty tray and can be used with hydroton, perlite, rockwool slabs, or other types of media.  A 400-watt Halide lighting system is mounted on a high-tech clutch drive motor and track that traverses light the length of the system in 7-minutes cycles for even light distribution.

Additional components of the system are: 15 gallon nutrient reservoir with cover, submersible pump with timer, seedling trays with clear grow dome, and start-up supplies.  Included is a detailed instructor's manual with complete setup and operation instructions.
